Next On Deck: Paul McCobb Modular Credenza

Waiting in the wings for a fresh look by Blue Lamb is this solid maple modular credenza designed by the Massachusetts born, legendary modern furniture designer Paul McCobb.   We adore McCobb's work, and we are excited to give this one some love.  As with a number of our finds, this one is certainly valuable in its original condition, and it would appeal to collectors, but we can't help but drool over the possibilities for redesign.

We have ideas brewing, but wanted to post this piece in the case that there is a buyer out there who would like it to be customized to suit their interior space. This credenza can be broken into three parts. It consists of a chest of drawers with metal ring pulls and a storage cabinet with grass cloth sliding doors which sit atop a bench with tapered legs. The original finish is well worn, but not damaged.  Please contact Phil if you are interested in discussing design customization, restoration, or if you wish to purchase the piece as is, untouched.

After doing some research, we learned that McCobb designed these modular pieces for the Planner Group collection, a collection manufactured by the Winchendon Furniture Company that was among the best selling contemporary furniture lines of the 1950s. It was in continuous production from 1949 until 1964. McCobb's work is now being showcased at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, and around the world at public institutions and in private collections.
