Paul McCobb Modular Unit - SOLD

This solid maple, mid-century modern, modular unit was originally designed by the Massachusetts born, legendary furniture designer, Paul McCobb.  McCobb designed these modular pieces for the Planner Group collection, which was among the best selling contemporary furniture lines of the 1950s.  The Planner Group collection was manufactured by the Winchendon Furniture Company. We think Paul McCobb had impeccable taste.  In redesigning this unit, we did our best to pay homage to the beauty of its original design elements.

The unit consists of a 3-drawer dresser, a sliding door cabinet, and a tapered leg platform bench.  The platform bench and the outer shell of the unit were completely stripped and professionally refinished with a durable spray lacquer semi-gloss clear coat over stain.  We refinished the drawer fronts with multiple coats of Benjamin Moore Advance, a premium semi-gloss paint, over two coats of BIN primer.  We replaced the cabinet doors and wrapped them with a textured grass cloth wallpaper.  We still have the original doors, which are also wrapped in grass cloth.  The metal ring pulls on the drawers and cabinet doors are original. They have a nice natural patina.

Fully assembled, the unit measures: 48 1/2"W x 18"D x 34 1/2"H.  The chest of drawers measures: 24"W x 18"D x 24"H.  The cabinet measures: 24"W x 18"D x 24"H.  The platform bench measures: 48"W x 18"D x 10"H.

This unit is currently on display at the beautifully renovated Barn at Todd Farm in Rowley, MA.

Commissioned Mid-Century Modern Hutch - SOLD

This custom project gave us a great opportunity to dedicate some serious time to researching beautiful designer wall coverings.   We all swooned (our client and ourselves) over this Aimee Wilder/ Ivana Helsinki tiger print wallpaper.  It was just perfect for our client's sophisticated kids room, and the gold detailing was a beautiful compliment the hutch's existing hardware.  We chose the charcoal paint color to compliment the gold elements, and to coordinate with the existing color palette in our client's kids room.  We decided to keep some stained elements as well to maintain some warmth, add interest, and to pay homage to the original design of the piece.  This custom project was truly a collaborative effort with our client and ourselves. We kept an open dialogue throughout the entire process: finding and securing the right hutch, redesigning it, and making our vision a reality.  We were all very pleased with the result.

Johnson Carper MCM Highboy - SOLD

This mid-century modern highboy was manufactured circa 1960 by the Johnson Carper furniture company.  We are big Johnson Carper fans.  We love the clean lines and beautiful architectural details.  The wood grain on the scalloped walnut drawer fronts is incredibly pretty too.  We refinished the body and tapered legs with multiple coats of Benjamin Moore Advance, a premium semi-gloss paint, over two coats of BIN primer.  The exact tone of gray was hard to capture in photos, so we included a fairly accurate color swatch.  The drawer fronts have also been refinished.  All 5 drawers slide well.  They are solidly constructed with dovetail joints.  For a little extra spice, we lined the drawers with a bold designer wall covering that features a black and white geometric floral print.  This dresser measures: 32"W × 18"D × 44 1/2"H.

This vintage maple dining table is gorgeous in person.  We love it for its unique architectural details and solid build.  It was manufactured mid-century by the Heywood Wakefield furniture company.  It has been professionally refinished with a durable spray lacquer semi-gloss clear coat over stain and dye.  This process allows the wood grain to remain visible.  The color is black with subtle dark brown undertones.
